Eagle Bend Yacht Harbor and Flathead Lake
The Eagle Bend Yacht Harbor is a private 191-slip full service marina with fuel dock, boat ramp, boat storage, and 3,485sf Clubhouse on fully landscaped gated grounds. Protected from the summer winds by the Lake Nine golf course’s fairways, the boat slips run from 22’ up to 45’ with dock lockers, 30amp power and water. The marina provides easy access to Flathead River and Lake where you can boat to a number of waterside restaurants or explore Wild Horse Island or the serene river sloughs in a country setting.
From the marina you can head north and journey up the Flathead River exploring the sloughs and country setting. On windy days, this is ideal as the waters are protected most of the time. Here you can waterski in the sloughs, fish, or jet ski. If you headed south from the marina, you are at the point were Flathead River feeds into Flathead Lake. And what a lake it is! It is one of 300 largest natural lakes in the world. Dotted with islands, the largest of which is 2,100 acres, this glacierly formed lake is host to 10 native fish species (redside shiner, peamouth minnow, squawfish, minnow, largescale sucker, longnose sucker, sculpin, bull trout, cutthroat, pygmy whitefish and mountain whitefish). What is really interesting is that for the size of the lake, you really TRULY have no traffic issues.

You will find kayaks, canoes, windsurfers, sail boats, seadoos, fishing boats all enjoying the waters without being on top of each other. There are sailboat regattas coming out of Somers. When I am exploring the lake, I prefer to hug the shoreline to view the majestic homes (typical Realtor) and quiet bays. There are several great places you can tie up to. Bigfork Bay has a public dock where you can tie up and explore the village shops or dine in any number of great eateries. In Woods Bay, The Raven is a popular place which serves great fish tacos and icy cold beer. The dock is a bit tricky to tie up to, though. Further south, in Yellow Bay, there is Many Springs Resort offering excellent dining (reservations needed in the summer) with an excellent dock. At the farthest south end of the lake, in Polson, is the Kwa Tuk Nuk resort with great docks and a good restaurant. Polson has some great shops and a fun golf course. On the west side of the lake, in Lakeside, is The Docks. Great menu, great waterside outdoor setting, good guest docks. One word of caution, Flathead Lake is a vast lake and when it is exposed to high winds the waves will make you feel you are out on the ocean. Always, be aware of the weather conditions and bring appropriate apparel and safety equipment. Of course, Flathead Lake is only one of many, many lakes in the Flathead Valley. There is Whitefish Lake, McGregor Lake, Ashley Lake, Bitterroot Lake, Foys Lake, Lake Blaine, Echo Lake, and Swan Lake to name a few, not counting the great rivers to explore as well. |
